Phase I Desk Study, Walkover Survey and Preliminary Risk Assessment |
Our clients submitted details to the local authority planning team for conversion of a former workshop at Olympia to a health club. The local authority granted planning permission with conditions stating that the development should not commence until a desk study, intrusive investigation and risk assessment had been approved by the authority.
Abricon were commissioned to carry out the site investigation. Following a review of site history and other documentary evidence, the site was visited to enable visual and olfactory evidence of contamination to be assessed. Remote video footage enabled the integrity of the drainage system to be assessed. The data enabled a conceptual model of the site to be produced.
A preliminary risk assessment was carried out to assess the likelihood of contamination from previous site uses and feasible pathways to potential receptors. The risk assessment concluded that the risks to human health and the environment from contamination were minimal.
The report was submitted to the local authority and following consideration by the planning department, planning permission was granted without any further investigation activity requirements.
