Is my project likely to require an EIA?

An EIA is always required for a Schedule 1 project. Schedule 1 projects are those by which by virtue of their nature or scale are always likely to have significant environmental effects. For such projects an EIA provides a systematic approach to obtaining and considering relevant environmental effects.

An EIA is only required for a Schedule 2 project if it is judged likely to have significant environmental effects.

For the overwhelming majority of development projects however, normal planning procedures are perfectly adequate to gain suffcient environmental information, and so an EIA is not required.

For more information on which industries and installations are listed under Schedule 1 and 2 projects, please follow the link alongside or here: Schedule I and II Development Descriptions.
